Liam O'Kelly-King

Research Technician

Liam joined the Singanayagam group as a Research Technician in April 2025. His current research focuses on bronchiectasis, and the role of respiratory virus in disease exacerbation. This work will utilise a human challenge model, aiming to investigate the immunological mechanisms that drive exacerbation in volunteers who have been inoculated with Rhinovirus.

Liam graduated from the University of Galway in 2021 with a BSc in Biochemistry, he then obtained an MSc in Biomolecular Science from University College Dublin. It was during his time at UCD that Liam developed an interest in Immunology. For his research thesis, he investigated disruption of the innate immune response by Semliki Forest Virus. Specifically, through interactions with proteins of the JAK/STAT signalling pathway. Liam then worked as a Research Assistant in London. This work involved the use of human challenge models to develop vaccines against respiratory pathogens RSV, Influenza and SARS-CoV-2.
