Dr Katharine Pates

Clinical PhD Fellow

Kat is a Clinical Research Fellow at the Royal Brompton, Speciality Registrar in Respiratory and General Internal Medicine and Mum of Two! Her PhD in the Singanayagam Lab focuses on antimicrobial resistance in patients with chronic lung disease. She is looking into the evolution of resistance over time, with a particular emphasis on the genetic drivers of resistance development. She has a special interest in those colonised with Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

 

Kat studied Biochemistry at Oxford University, before moving on to study Medicine at St Bartholemew’s Medical School. She has remained in London to carry out her training, and is currently in South London for Higher Speciality Training in Respiratory Medicine, with a special interest in Respiratory Infection. She joined the Singanayagam group in April 2025.
