Dr James Pinkerton

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Dr. James Pinkerton is an Research Associate Fellow (Academic Visitor) in the Singayanagam lab within the Infectious Disease department.

James has a PhD in Immunology & Microbiology from the University of Newcastle, Australia focused on understanding severe asthma. Following this James worked in the Respiratory Pharmacology group under Prof. Maria Belvisi where he worked to characterise & develop models of disease in asthma, COPD & IPF for assessment of novel therapies. He next moved to industry to work within BioPharmaceuticals R&D within Respiratory & Immunology at AstraZeneca. Here, working on delivery & development of a number of translational preclinical disease models of disease for priority disease areas such as asthma, COPD & atopic dermatitis with a number of projects transitioning to clinical trials.

James' work focuses on better understanding the pathophysiology & mechanisms-associated with altering the immune environment in obstructive lung diseases. James has a particular interest in understanding the role of exacerbation, particularly in the context of respiratory infection, in driving more severe disease which are resistant to conventional therapies. To do this he applies a combination approach of primary clinical samples & pre-clinical models to best inform therapeutic strategies in respiratory disease.
